PLAGLASS

Super Hardness , Excellent Wear Resistance,High Gloss and Optical Performance.

SBI Material Tech. Co. uses self-developed innovative high wear resistant and high hardness sol-gel (CONANO is the SBI Material name) which is acrylic nano material base to improve the hardness and wear resistance of PC and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) substrate. This completely changes the surface wear resistance problem of traditional PC material and improves the surface hardness of PMMA. After the PC material coated through High Abrasion resistance (HAB; SBI call name) coating process, it can undergo strict test conditions of 500~2000 scrubs with steel wool (steel wool No. #0000) without being scratched (or only have minor scratches). Compared to traditional hardening of PC, this is a revolutionary change and amazing wear resistance. At the same time, transmittance is also higher than traditional HC because of refractive index design, and show superior birefringence optical performance (no rainbow color phenomenon) . This process can be used on flat shape, curved shape, or injection 3D shapes via dipping or spraying coat technology, which produces the same improvements.
This technology can provide comprehensive improvements, and can replace current expensive improvement methods (products) so that the PC application market can become more wide spread.
PMMA material that coated by the Super Hard Coating (SHC; SBI call name) process can achieve a surface hardness of 9H pencil hardness (by 1kg weight test) and superior wear resistance. The surface hardness of SHC PMMA is comparable to that of glass, and can replace glass as the new high hardness substrate material. This is the newest development and innovation in plastic surface coating. Thus, SBI Material Tech. Co. named this new technology the Plastic Glass (PLAGLAS) process.
Although the industry had used high hardness surface coating on PMMA substrate early on, there were some problems after the process. For example, anti-reflection (AR) vacuum coating technology or other functional coating could not achieve good adhesion. Printing ink has not well adhesion performance, and computer numeric control (CNC) cutting produced cracking in the hardening film. These problems severely limited application and promotion. However, these problems were greatly improved in the PLAGLAS process.

Manufacturing Method

PLAGLAS series products are coated via dipping and spray technology. Regardless of the product’s exterior shape, which can be flat, curved, or 3D, the product can be coated to achieve the same effects. With glass properties as the development objective, PLAGLAS can use the newest nano sol-gel technology to improve or compensate for weaknesses in traditional plastic material. Self-developed acrylic resin gel is used in the PLAGLAS series to improve weaknesses in the material. Furthermore, many application characteristics can be derived from the chemical gel to replace glass or high-cost composite plastic material. Wet coating production technology (dipping or spraying) can be used to break through shape limitation. Thus, the product can have high hardness and high wear resistant. After this process, the product can be printed or be coated with optical coatings (such as AR.AS…) without being affected.
